Morganite Gemmology Facts:  

Morganite is the pink to orange-pink Gemstone of the Beryl family. The Beryl family includes Emerald and Aquamarine. On the Mohs Scale, Morganite is rated 7.5-8, making it relatively hard.

This Gem can form in very large Crystals. In fact, in Brazil, miners found a Crystal weighing 10kg! Most of the world’s Morganite comes from Brazil. However, deposits have been located across the world, including Afghanistan, Namibia and the United States of America.

This Gem was first discovered by George Kruz in 1910, George was chief Gemmologist at Tiffany & Co. The famous American financier J.P. Morgan was a close friend and business associate of Kruz. As a way of acknowledging Morgan’s support Kruz named the Gem after him.

Morganite is a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs Scale.
