K2 Jasper Gemmology Facts:

This Gemstone material is rare and only found along the Pakistan and China border. It is known as K2 Jasper or K2 Granite. It is named after a mountain in the Karakoram Range. The K2 mountain, also known as “Mount Godwin Austen,” is the second-highest mountain in the world.

It has a white or grey body colour with blue “splodges” and black flecks. At CG HQ, we think this looks like a blue bingo dobber has been used! If you look closely, you will see these Orbs are spherical shapes. This unusual Stone does draw the eye, especially if you have never seen it before!

It is made from White Granite; the bright blue orbs are Azurite! The Azurite orbs range from a few millimetres to around two centimetres.

Even though this Gemstone is called a Jasper, it is not. If you look at K2 under your Chalmers Gems Loupe, you will notice the cleavage faces of Feldspar Minerals, and the black flakes are Biotite.

This Gemstone is mined in pretty tricky conditions. The heavy snow, high altitude, and limited resources in the area make the value of this Crystal incredibly high.
