Sandalwood is a class of wood from trees in the genus Santalum. It can grow successfully anywhere and is indigenous to India where it is grown, cultivated and viewed as a sacred tree in the Hindu Ayurveda.

This beautiful, earthen-coloured wood is used for worshipping the god Shiva, and it is also believed that the Goddess Lakshmi lives inside the sandalwood tree. Often, Gods, like Ganesh are carved from this sacred Sandalwood.
