Howlite Gemmology Facts: 

Howlite was discovered in Candia in 1868. Howlite gets its name from a Candian chemist, Gemmologist and Mineralogist, Henry How. It is a Borate Mineral.

Howlite’s nodule formation resembles the heads of cauliflower. This beautiful Gem has a marble-like appearance and is threaded with veins running throughout the Stone. The veins are usually hues of white, grey or black and form web-like patterns.

It is a form of Calcium Borosilicate Hydroxide with a Mohs hardness of 2.5 to 3.5, indicating that it is a relatively soft stone.
