Columbian Copal Rough Specimen Gemmology Facts:

Columbian Copal is very similar to Amber, as both are fossilised tree resin. However, it is much younger and much lighter than Amber.

In fact, this extraordinary Gemstone is around 50 to 1.6 million years old, making this a much younger Crystal when compared to Amber, which has been around for approximately 99 million years.

Copal is commonly used as an Amber substitute.

If you look closely, in some Copal, you may even spot prehistoric insects trapped inside! But this tends to be very rare. 

Copal can be located in East Africa and South America, it’s commonly found in areas that have tropical latitudes.

This is a very soft Gemstone with a Moh hardness of 2 – 3.5.
