GEMMOLOGY FACTS: AMETHYST
Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz which is the largest Gemstone family. Its sisters are Rose Quartz, Citrine, Prasiolite and Smokey Quartz, just to name a few.
Amethyst’s colour comes from iron and grows in a high temperature and a high-pressure environment. Amethyst varies in shade from very pale lavender to intense purple. The colour is dictated by the level of iron within each Stone.
Amethyst can occur in a range of shapes and colours and can be found with large natural points or polished into smooth shapes. Until the beginning of the 20th Century, Amethyst was quite rare and costly.
It was as expensive as Ruby and Emeralds. You may spot Amethyst in antique Jewellery or Royal Jewels, including the British Royal Family Crown Jewels, which you can view at the Tower of London.
Today it is one of the most popular Quartz varieties and is in high demand for designer pieces. Its purple hues make it so popular within the mass market
CRYSTAL HEALING PROPERTIES: WHAT IS AMETHYST GOOD FOR?
This Crystal is the purple variety of the Quartz family and actually means “not drunken” in Greek. Historically Amethyst was used as an amulet against drunkenness!
This is one of the Master Healing Gemstones, used to amplify and induce calmness, peace, and tranquillity. This Gem can benefit people struggling with intense stress and give users a sense of balance and diplomacy. This Gemstone is one of the most effective Crystals for healing.
It reverberates with high-frequency energies of the Crown and Third Eye Chakra as it opens, activates, and heals. It massively calms and soothes the mind, body, and spirit.
As this Stone is associated with the Crown and Third Eye Chakras, it is a super Gemstone to help us with positive thinking and expel negativity in our practices.
A hugely protective Gemstone, Amethyst has been used throughout the centuries to bring protection to our waking and sleeping states.
Its powers have also been thought of in ancient times to help with those wretched hangovers; however, today, we tend to use it in Meditation, before sleep or in moments of stillness.
A bath time slumber or beside your sleeping self is an ideal placement for this Gem.
This is one of the Master Healing Stones and is used in practice to amplify and help with calmness, peace and tranquillity, as well as being super pretty!
