Gemmology Facts:

Sugalite gets its colour from small amounts of Magnesium that are present within the Stone. This produces the pinky and purple hues that can be seen within many types of Sugalite. It tends to be opaque in appearance but can also be lightly banded or rarely translucent. It is mostly mined in Japan or South Africa.

Sugalite is a premium Gemstone that was first discovered in 1944 but didn’t take off into the Gemstone and Jewellery Market until 1979.

Sugalite has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

Sugalite is an alternate birthstone for January.
