What makes Smokey Quartz Smokey?

Well, it’s radiation – natural radiation from deep within the Earth. Now, this does not mean they are radioactive or give off radiation. Deep under the Earth’s crust, the conditions create lots of natural radiation. The surrounding rocks have Quartz within. The aluminium presence in the Crystal structure when in these radioactive conditions gives the Smokey appearance in the Quartz. Quartz is one of the most common Gemstone families and is found in large quantities around the world. It is commonly found in massive hydrothermal veins.

While the feathery colours of Smokey Quartz can be found all over the world, mostly in Brazil, this Gem is considered the national Stone of Scotland.

Crystal Healing Properties:

Smokey Quartz holds very similar healing properties to Amethyst. This Gemstone is a perfect grounding and anchoring Stone due to its energy transmutation properties. Whereas Amethyst shifts your energy up, Smokey Quartz goes deep and down. The smokey colouring rapidly expels negative energies away from your aura via the Root Chakra down into the Earth for grounding.
