Product Description

Lapis Lazuli Twisted Oval Beads Approx 20 x 15mm 4 Pieces Strand

These are extraordinary Twisted Oval Lapis Lazuli beads, as each one has been lovingly hand-cut in our factory in Jaipur by our incredibly talented and skilful team!

Each Strand has 4 pieces and measures approximately 20 x 15 mm.

The Specialist Cutting Process:

Step One:

For our specialist Twisted Oval beads, the Cutter plays a hugely important role in getting the foundation perfectly ready for the rest of the process. With years of experience, our Cutters decide, with precision, the most productive area of the rock to cut as ‘plates’. What they are looking for at this stage is to ensure none of the natural properties and beauty is lost in this first sectional cut.

Step Two:

The next step in creating these Twisted Ovals is a secondary expert mark in these plates for the performing of ‘squares’. These plates are then cut down further into squares, ready for the next step. There is not a hacksaw, bow saw or even a seesaw in sight! These cuts are made with supreme precision and skill to ensure that nature is encapsulated within the resulting piece.

Step Three:

Further to these two above steps, these squares go through a process to reach the measurement required of the final piece and are then hand-crafted into Calibrated Ovals. Believe it or not, we are still not finished! Additional performing is now required whereby the (beautiful!) Facets are formed on a rotary disc by hand. This now results in the near-completed Twisted Oval you will soon be holding in your hand and creating a stunning piece of jewellery!

Step Four:

We now need to polish each Twisted Oval Bead, again by hand (which isn’t a case of some Mr Sheen and a dry rag!). This is serious business with polishing tools to make 100% sure the surface of the Gemstone is perfect for you.

Step Five:

The Lapidarist then oversees the accurate drilling of each piece, making sure that the specification of the hole placement and width is carried out.

Step Six:

Ah, you thought we were finished, then, didn’t you?! Well, no. Not quite! There is still one final obstacle for these Twisted Ovals to overcome and that is, of course, the watchful eye of our very own Marie Chalmers, whose Quality Control process ensures that even with the very best and most experienced Lapidarists, no piece leaves our stockroom in less than perfect condition!

So, that’s it! The entire journey each one of these incredible faceted Twisted Ovals needs to take, from its very first touch from the Lapidary right through to you holding it in your hand.

What do you think? Worth the 24 hours cutting process?!

Lapis Lazuli Gemmology Facts:

Lapis Lazuli has Iron Pyrites inclusions, known better as Pyrite. Pyrite (Fool’s Gold) is a brassy golden metallic sparkly material with excellent, unique speckles. The Pyrite perfectly permeates the rich blue background in these Cabochons, giving this remarkable speckled effect.

If you didn’t already know, the speckled feature is a good one where Lapis Lazuli is concerned as often, dyed Howlite is passed off as Lapis, but of course, that doesn’t have beautiful Pyrite inclusions!

Crystal Healing Properties: What is Lapis Lazuli good for?

Lapis Lazuli is known to have soft, gentle healing energy; it labours on our behalf to help us relieve the tensions and reinstate the calm after the storm. What could be more perfect for today’s climate?

Lapis Lazuli, whilst beautiful, is a Gemstone that helps us see into ourselves by way of soothing the way to acknowledgement and empowers us to take responsibility for our choices. It’s also a little bit of an irony unto itself as it’s one of those Gemstones we all wish to possess. Yet, one of its qualities is its ability to help us free ourselves from the material world – we all know what Alanis Morrisette would say about that!

The great thing to know about Lapis Lazuli is its integrity as a healing Crystal as it helps us get real, stay honest and above all, be authentic – just like our 100% natural Lapis!

GEMSTONE & CRYSTAL CARE:

One of the most important things to remember if you own Gemstones or Crystals is to care for them properly. Gemstones should be carefully cared for like any other item we love. We recommend using the Chalmers Gems Gemstone Cleaning & Polishing Cloth to keep your Gems clean.
