What is Jewellery Making?
Jewellery Making is a creative and rewarding craft that anyone can enjoy regardless of their age or skill level. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced crafter, you can create unique and beautiful pieces of Jewellery that reflect your personal style and taste.
Let me introduce myself:
Hello everyone, my name is Fleur Hastings and I have a small business that provides comprehensive Jewellery Making kits and subscription boxes.
I didn’t start my Jewellery Making career until I was in my thirties (see you can start at any age) although I have made Jewellery all my life in one form or another. I am really passionate about showing everyone just how amazing Jewellery Making can be and also how easy it is. I have taught Jewellery Making for the last 10 years and I can honestly say I have never met anyone that couldn’t make Jewellery, we always find a way to create stunning pieces.
So why start Jewellery Making?
One of the great things about Jewellery Making is the variety of techniques and styles available to explore. From Wire-Wrapped Jewellery to Metalworking and Beading, there are many different ways to create stunning Jewellery pieces. You can experiment with different materials such as Gemstones, cords, wire, and chain, and explore a variety of techniques to create unique designs. Jewellery Making is not only a fun and creative hobby, but it also has a range of mindful benefits. When you’re making Jewellery, you’re able to focus your attention on the task at hand, which can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. Additionally, the sense of accomplishment and achievement that comes from completing a project can be incredibly rewarding.
What do I need to start making Jewellery?
Jewellery Making is a very cost effective hobby to start, all you need to start is a basic Tool Kit. This consists of Round Nose Pliers, Flat Nose Pliers, Chain Nose Pliers and Cutters. It is always advisable to work on a Bead Mat or Beading Board so your project is kept all in one place.
Other items you will need to start are Jewellery Findings, these are the components that hold your Jewellery together and although they can look scary, I promise you they are easy to use and once you know how to use them they become your best friend that brings your Jewellery to life.
The other thing you need are Gemstones! Obviously you are reading this blog on Chalmers Gems website and I can honestly say this is the best place to buy your Gemstones. Buying Crystals and Gemstones is a minefield with lots of disingenuous sellers that sell fake, damaged and low quality Gemstones. With Chalmers Gems you are buying from one of the industries top Gemmologists and you know that each Bead has been quality controlled by the team and is perfect to be used in your wonderful creation.
Is Jewellery Making good for you?
Jewellery Making is not just about creating beautiful pieces; it’s also about the journey of discovery and self-expression. It’s a chance to explore your inner creativity and discover new talents. Through Jewellery Making, you can express your individuality and create pieces that reflect your unique style and personality.
In addition, Jewellery Making is a wonderful way to connect with other like-minded crafters. It’s an opportunity to meet new people who share your passion and exchange tips and ideas. You can attend workshops, join social media groups, meet up at a local Bead work.
So what are you waiting for?
In conclusion, Jewellery Making is a fun and fulfilling craft that offers endless possibilities for creativity and self-expression. With just a few basic tools and materials, you can begin exploring new techniques and styles, and connect with a community of amazing like-minded crafters. So why not give it a try and see where your Jewellery Making journey takes you? Who knows one day you will be the one making Jewellery and your hobby may turn into a new job or even small business.
