Carnelian GEMMOLOGY FACTS:

Carnelian is a type of Chalcedony and is commonly found in Brazil, India and Uruguay. This beautiful Stone is very fiery in colour and can be found in shades of orange, red and brown. Carnelian is the most famous and, usually, least expensive chalcedony variety.

This Gemstone is only found in huge non-crystallised formations.

Carnelian is the traditional birthstone for Virgo.

Carnelian was known to most ancient civilisations and has always been associated with spirituality. It used to be spelt Cornelian, and its name was derived from its colour. It is a red/orange/brown variety of Chalcedony coloured by iron. Who knew?!

Roman high-ranking officers would wear Carnelian rings to seal letters as wax doesn’t stick to the Stone.
