Gemmology Facts: White Scolecite

Scolecite has a unique structure which makes it incredibly interesting to Gemmologists! Marie loves this Gemstone.

When it grows, it forms in various sized clusters of sharp, prismatic, needle-like points – a bit like fibre optics!

These points tend to radiate outwards from a single point or can criss-cross each other, forming the most incredible sculpture-like natural art worthy of a museum!

No other Crystal discovered grows in this formation, so it’s easy to spot for those in the know! When used to create Cabochons, the formation is often still visible.

Scolecite Crystals generally form in white or are clear. Sometimes, trace minerals within the Crystal matrix (the stone it grows on) can also turn them into different colours such as pink, red, orange, and green.

Some of our Scolecite Cabochons look like snow-topped mountains as they contain the most wondrous White Scolecite highlights.
