Chalmers Gems Iolite is mined in India. Iolite can also be found in other parts of the world. Some of these include Sri Lanka, Africa and Brazil, to name a few.

Iolite has an amazing Gemstone Phenomenon called Pleochroism. This optical phenomenon is the colours of the Gem displays differently at different angles. Iolite is a purple Gemstone however due to Pleochroism you can see undertones of green and blue rotated under a light.

Iolite can sometimes be mistaken for Tanzanite or Sapphire. However, Iolite is a lot softer than Sapphire and harder than Tanzanite.

You will commonly see Iolite as a faceted Gem as this style of cutting highlights its fine transparency.
