Carnelian is a type of Chalcedony and is commonly found in Brazil, India and Uruguay. This beautiful Stone is very firey in colour and can be found in shades of orange, red and brown.

Carnelian is only found in huge non-crystallised formations.

Carnelian is the traditional birthstone for Virgo.

Carnelian was known to most ancient civilisations and has always been associated with spirituality. It used to be spelt Cornelian, and it’s name was derived from its colour. It is a red/orange/brown variety of Chalcedony coloured by iron. Who knew?!

Roman high-ranking officers would wear Carnelian rings to seal letters as the wax didn’t stick to the Stone.
