Dendritic Agate is thought to have been discovered between the 3rd and 4th Centuries BC, over 3,000 years ago.

A type of Chalcedony, a variety of Quartz, Dendritic Agate is a colourless or off-white grey translucent quartz that has the most remarkable little tree-like inclusions, which are known as dendrites (from Greek – tree-like).

Hence the name Dendritic Agate. These dendrites are created as iron or manganese (generally brown or black oxides) grows within the Quartz as a visible and pattern-creating inclusion.

Since being discovered 3 millennia ago, this Gemstone has found its way into Jewellery and amulets for centuries and is one of the oldest recorded Gemstones known to man.
