MOSS AGATE GEMMOLOGY FACTS: 

Moss Agate comes in multiple shades of green with inclusions that resemble green moss, hence the name given to this precious Stone. Moss Agate gets its colour through the presence of metals such as iron and chrome.

Moss Agate can be found in most continents around the world. Agate is an absolute favourite at Chalmers Gems, as every piece is unique.

Agate takes 50 million years to form from the deposition of layers of silica that fill voids in volcanic cavities.

The layers form in stages, with new layers often forming alternating colours and patterns.
