This Gem is a favourite at Chalmers Gems, as every piece is unique. This Gem takes 50 million years to form from the deposition of layers of silica that fill voids in volcanic rocks.

Agate Nodules are commonly found within the cavities. The layers form in stages, with new layers often creating alternating colours.

There are countless varieties of Agate, and their names tend to be associated with their appearance. For example, Blue Lace Agate demonstrates baby blue and white lace-like branding, whereas Fire Agate comes in deep oranges and red giving it a fiery appearance.

This Crystal can be found mainly in Brazil. However, it’s primarily mined in Mexico, South America, Europe and the United States.

Much Agate is dyed to give it vibrant colours, accentuating the material’s striations.
